PROVERBS 24.16

By Igho

Proverbs {24:16a}

"FOR A JUST MAN FALLETH SEVEN TIMES, AND RISETH UP AGAIN"

To understand Proverbs 24:16, we must pay attention to the significance of the number seven in biblical literature. Seven often communicates completeness or fullness. In this proverb, it intensifies the picture of the righteous person experiencing repeated adversity. His life is not exempt from trials, disappointments, or painful setbacks. There may be moments when he feels he has reached his limit—when he is exhausted, helpless, and unable to see a way forward. Yet his falling does not necessarily mean his story is over. He rises again.

His confidence is not that he will never fall, but that falling does not have to be the end. As believers, we can extend this truth through our confidence in God's sustaining power: even when our circumstances appear hopeless, we can continue trusting Him.
